As an experienced Field Engineer with the Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP)—a joint venture of Flatiron, Dragados USA, and VINCI—you will oversee critical aspects of the $3.3BN Design-Build project, the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). The project spans a 9-mile section of I-64 and includes a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing (8 lanes), replacement of existing marine approach bridges, addition of a third lane in each direction, and twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels bored by TBM—the second largest TBM tunnel opening in North America.

Responsibilities

  • Meet daily with project crews to review production schedules and confirm availability of materials, equipment, and resources to ensure on-schedule and on-budget execution.
  • Collect, coordinate, and analyze shop drawings, design specifications, material requirements, and project data throughout the project to ensure quality and contract compliance.
  • Provide technical input for project work plans and scheduling, identifying risk elements that could impact budget or schedule.
  • Evaluate daily production, schedule, and budget projections to track project performance accurately.
  • Document daily activities using Company-approved methods and technologies.
  • Submit accurate project quantity input and controls using assigned cost coding to ensure precise financial reporting.
  • Manage cost coding with Company finance and accounting teams for employee time, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
  • Review and approve daily timecards for all Company construction crews; resolve timecard inquiries with Office Manager, payroll, and supervisors as needed.
  • Review project specifications for quality assurance at project start, during execution, and after completion.
  • Initiate and manage certificates, inspections, and other documentation related to construction production on-site.
  • Plan field layout with construction crews and engineering leaders, ensuring utility and commercial lines are marked before production begins.
  • Initiate and manage permits required before work begins.
  • Assist in the development of design drawings and provide technical input as needed.
  • Coordinate subcontractor work methods, schedules, and crews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (required).
  • 1+ years of construction engineering experience (required).
  • Beginner knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications, building materials, and applicable project standards.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of construction scheduling and production time management (preferred).

Pay

Salary range: USD $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year.
