About the Role

The Field Engineer 2 supports construction activities for routine projects, ensuring crew work is performed efficiently and effectively. This position completes tasks personally and by supervising a crew as a working foreman, all in alignment with JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Autonomy and Decision Making: Follows directions and refers exceptions to supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in all aspects of the project-specific safety plan and culture.
• Learn and demonstrate commitment to the company’s safety culture by promoting an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
• Work with tools and execute self-perform work as part of a crew to complete assigned tasks.
• Acquire knowledge of company best practices and fundamentals for building and construction techniques through hands-on, on-the-job training.
• Build relationships and develop communication and interpersonal skills with tradespeople and project team members (foremen, journeymen, superintendents, subcontractors, etc.).
• Develop an understanding of various company functions and support roles and how they contribute to project success.
• Learn and apply company standards for equipment use in specific building processes.
• Collaborate with others and demonstrate teamwork.
• Incorporate Lean practices into daily activities.
• Participate in meetings such as weekly work plans as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and report self-perform work.
• Pre-plan crew activities, fulfill daily task plan requirements, complete look-ahead schedules, and provide updates to supervisors.
• Participate in creating and implementing project safety plans, ensuring compliance through training, toolbox talks, and communication with safety representatives.
• Help control costs by identifying process improvements.
• Ensure quality for assigned tasks by assisting with project quality assurance/quality control activities.
• Assist with Material and Other Costs (MOC) and equipment analysis.
• Work on-site with the superintendent to monitor crew size, self-perform packaging, and contractor coordination.
• Participate in activities such as punch lists, city inspections, safety reviews, quality reviews, and prepare necessary documentation.
• Lead or participate in planning meetings, including weekly work plans and lookaheads.
• Coordinate with others using knowledge of company functions and support roles to meet project needs.
• Lead or participate in Lean construction practices such as the Last Planner System.
• Plan components of sequencing and coordination for all crafts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (Preferred).
• Participation in a federally required training or apprenticeship program, depending on location (Preferred).
• Equivalent relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the above requirements.

Experience

• 2+ years of construction experience (Required).
• 0-2 years of construction supervision experience (Preferred).

Skills

• Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Ability to acquire knowledge in layout skills.
• Knowledge of crane flagging and rigging.
• Understanding of organizational structure and available resources.
• Knowledge of construction management means and methods.
• Knowledge of Lean processes and philosophy.
• Proficiency in required JE Dunn construction technology.
• Ability to apply fundamentals of construction management means and methods.
• Knowledge of self-perform and labor productivity.
• Ability to assess and optimize project productivity.
• Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
• Ability to acquire knowledge of productivity rates.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
