About the role

Join the Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance as a Field Enforcement Agent 1 and help protect the fairness of Pennsylvania tax laws. This position offers a chance to learn important investigative skills while serving communities across the state. This role places you on the front line of enforcing tax laws that help support public programs. You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience alongside seasoned agents. Responsibilities

  • Observe experienced agents in investigative activities, tax collection procedures, and compliance enforcement
  • Assist with registration checks, on-site fuel testing, and inspections of businesses and vehicles
  • Participate in inquiries involving delinquent taxes, contraband tobacco products, and license compliance
  • Search records, evaluate financial details, conduct surveillance, and collect evidence for review
  • Communicate with taxpayers, businesses, and agencies while promoting understanding of tax requirements
  • Help prepare investigative reports, documentation, and materials needed for legal or administrative action

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirements

  • Possess an active motor vehicle license
  • Reside in Allegheny County
  • Ability to perform essential job functions

Legal Requirements

This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.

You must meet eligibility requirements for the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN).

Schedule

Full-time employment. Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. Home headquartered: this position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
