Field Diesel Mechanic

About the role

As a Field Diesel Mechanic (Field Service Tech II) at United Rentals, you will perform maintenance and repairs on complex rental equipment in a safe and professional manner. The role offers opportunities to improve and challenge yourself, with potential to advance to higher levels of Service Technician and leadership positions within the Service Department. Exceptional customer service is a core expectation.

Responsibilities

• Perform safe maintenance and repair of a variety of complex rental equipment involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems.
• Travel to customer job sites to service rental or customer‑owned equipment while keeping the service vehicle clean and professional.
• Assist in training lower‑level technicians as needed.
• Maintain paperwork and electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) accurately and promptly on a daily basis.
• Assist with pick‑up and delivery of equipment and parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• 1–2 years of experience repairing/maintaining vehicles and equipment, or a trade‑school graduation.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude and strong working knowledge of tools.
• Solid mechanical background with knowledge of various engine types.
• Own tools applicable to the position.
• Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lb.
• Position is deemed Safety Sensitive under United Rentals’ policies and procedures.
