About the role
This position supports the safety, quality, and compliance standards for the execution of capital projects within the Power Delivery and Capital Projects business units. Responsibilities include directly supporting construction activities, inventory and material management, equipment logistics, and outage management. The role oversees contract resources performing line, substation, and civil construction activities in Distribution, Transmission, or Substation operating groups, and provides direct support to Project Team members throughout the project lifecycle. An advocate for safety, this position promotes an incident-free workplace and cultivates a safe work culture.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and coordinate site-based construction activities, including those performed by contractors, vendors, and employees, ensuring work is performed safely and meets construction specifications.
- Ensure projects are staffed with qualified construction management professionals and field personnel for effective oversight of contractors and subcontractors.
- Assist in the safe planning and execution of construction activities for Capital Projects managed by the Project Delivery organization.
- Oversee Field Level Switching and energized operations.
- Schedule, assign, manage, and monitor work of construction and service crews, ensuring compliance with company standards, safety guidelines, and in-service dates.
- Support emergency and storm operations during critical restoration periods.
- Develop and maintain the Project Execution Plan, ensuring adherence to the plan.
- Monitor contractor performance in project safety, schedule, cost, quality of work, and compliance with contractual requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee the execution of energized line work, including confirmation of Energized Work Plans (EWPs).
- Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks.
- Ensure Entergy and contractor safety and quality standards are upheld.
- Provide improvements to policies and procedures to enhance work efficiencies, capture lessons learned, and adopt industry best practices.
- Review contractor outage plans to verify compliance with Entergy system requirements and system reliability.
- Communicate and address constructability or coordination issues that may impact the project or system.
- Plan and lay out working details with minimal supervision, leading internal and contract crews for electrical and mechanical tasks in construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of transmission and distribution lines, substations, and related equipment.
- Ensure completion of required project tasks, including field observations, progress confirmation, QA/QC, and as-builts.
- Lead resolution of field construction problems in coordination with the Construction Engineer and project team.
- Coordinate material orders, deliveries, equipment staging, jobsite readiness, and switching.
- Assist with preparing site-specific hazard identification plans.
- Complete post-job audits and ensure jobsite cleanup, including accounting for excess materials.
- Support local and out-of-state storm restoration activities.
- Oversee and monitor the safety and performance of contractors and company personnel.
- Ensure all facilities and assets are installed and commissioned per design and company standards, confirmed through diagnostic testing or inspection.
- Provide input for formal construction plans and proactive mitigation plans.
- Report variances from process, project scope, or design that affect safety, quality, cost, schedule, or customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- Field Coordinator II: 5+ years of field transmission/distribution line, substation, or construction experience, including some experience leading a team or contract workforce.
- Field Coordinator, Sr: 7+ years of field transmission/distribution line, substation, or construction experience, with 3+ years of supervisory experience or leading a team/workforce.
- Knowledge of Construction and Maintenance practices, including managing/executing capital projects.
- Working knowledge of transmission and substation construction, standards, safety procedures, and policies.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal direction and a high level of organization.
- Strong working knowledge of basic computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.
- Excellent communication, organizational, leadership, decision-making, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to lead and work in a team environment across multiple disciplines and work groups.
- History of safe performance, active safety involvement, and a strong desire for a safer workplace.
- Ability to conduct voltage load, substation, electrolysis, ground, and other special tasks.
- Plan and lay out work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Check, handle, and be responsible for materials removed from and returned to stock; prepare reports and records.
- Direct work of assistants and train other employees.
- Work near energized conductors maintaining minimum approach distance up to and including 500 KV.
- Lead or assist in storm restoration in substations and other groups.
- Understand and interpret computer applications for testing substation equipment (e.g., Doble Power Factor, speed shot equipment, battery test equipment, pole inspection, and testing methods).
- Analyze test results and identify risks related to T&D Line and substation construction and maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee contract workforce and project execution effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute project outages safely.
- Knowledge of safe work rules and fatal rules.
- Facilitate defining solutions with project teams.
- Comply with all commissioning and regulatory requirements regarding relays.
- Abide by and follow the Code of Conduct.
- Some knowledge of applications, processes, software, and equipment (e.g., Primavera P6, Oracle, Maximo).
- Demonstrated cross-functional project leadership experience.
- Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset, and ability to act as a trusted advisor.
Qualifications
- Construction Management Certification preferred (Field Coordinator, Sr).
- This position is designated as Safety Sensitive and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
Travel up to 25% may be required.
