Leidos currently has an opening on the ‘Service Management, Integration and Transport’ (SMIT) Contract for a Field/Base Network Technician position. This is an exciting opportunity to support the SMIT mission, the largest IT services program for the Navy. Under SMIT, the Leidos team delivers the core backbone of the Navy-Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI), including cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Leidos supports the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while reducing costs through a single enterprise network.

About the role

This position requires fundamental knowledge of network communications, architecture, security controls, and configuration. Candidates must be highly motivated with working knowledge of network operations, fault diagnosis, repair, installation, configuration, cabling, passive infrastructure, troubleshooting, project execution, and the ability to analyze and interpret policies and procedures. A basic understanding of network architectures and engineering solutions is essential. The ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented, fast-paced, and mission-focused environment is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Work as an Operations-focused Network Technician on a team responsible for BAN/LAN/WAN Network Operations, troubleshooting, schedule upgrades and cutovers, and coordinate with responsible users and sites.
  • Provide COMSEC Alternate Local Element support to assigned locations, including maintaining COMSEC hardware/software assets and key inventories, loading keys into encryption devices, installing, configuring, troubleshooting, upgrading, removing/replacing faulty equipment, and interacting with the Primary Local Element and/or Government KOAMs.
  • Document work activities/details per established tools and processes; maintain accurate site documentation.
  • Interface with Field Base Network Lead and the Network Operations Center (NOC) as required in support of incident troubleshooting and restoral.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and removal/replacement of faulty hardware using SOPs, TTPs, work instructions, vendor guidance, and other documented processes and procedures.
  • Support network configuration/asset management activities, manage configuration drift, and accurately create or modify network documentation to reflect the as-is and/or to-be environment.
  • Support Cybersecurity requirements and implementation of security controls (STIG compliance).
  • Coordinate network upgrades and planned maintenance activities with SMIT Program and customer stakeholders.
  • Recertify training annually to maintain baseline, participate in training to maintain skillset and knowledge base, and provide input to assist in development and improvement of content for Master Training Syllabus.
  • Assist with assigned Government Directed Actions (GDA) in a timely manner and report completion to the Field Base Network Lead.
  • May require local area and/or overnight travel by car or air to assigned locations to conduct operations-focused activities (e.g., break/fix, COMSEC support).

Requirements

  • Associate degree in a relevant field preferred with 2+ years of overall related experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree (2 additional years of experience may be substituted at the hiring Manager’s discretion).
  • DOD Secret Security Clearance with ability to upgrade to and maintain a TS Security Clearance.
  • Minimum of DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II Certification required prior to onboarding: CompTIA Security+ CE, CDN, ISC2 SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, or CYSA+.
  • Must possess Network Vendor Entry Level or higher Certification (e.g., Cisco CCST, Cisco CCT).
  • Entry-level knowledge of configuring and maintaining network devices such as switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and network appliances.
  • Awareness of network protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, and routing protocols.
  • 1+ years’ experience troubleshooting complex routing and switching issues.
  • 1+ years’ experience configuring switches, routers, network appliances, and WAN acceleration devices.
  • Ability to be scheduled to work, or be called in to work during off hours and weekends to meet customer mission support requirements.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to resolve technical issues in a dynamic setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients and team members.
  • Customer service experience.
  • Ability to travel 25%, including possible OCONUS travel.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for up to 100 feet at a time; must be able to lift 25 lbs vertically using ladders.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces, such as raised floors or communications closets.
  • Must be able to work in noisy environments, such as data centers and operations centers.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for 8 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to utilize basic hand tools such as screwdrivers and wrenches while rack mounting active and passive equipment using small screws and brackets.
  • Must have normal color vision to identify different colors of wires and cables.
  • Must have correctable vision to 20/20 or better to see objects and information displayed in schematics, test equipment, and computer monitors.
  • Must have depth perception to judge distance between objects to work safely on ladders and in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to use and read digital test equipment such as OTDR.
  • Must be able to drive a corporate vehicle to different locations for projects and troubleshooting; valid state license required.

Skills

  • Top Secret Security Clearance (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in IT Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • MPLS experience (preferred).
  • DevOps, CI/CD experience (preferred).
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python) (preferred).
  • Automation experience (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) (preferred).
  • SDN/SD WAN experience (preferred).
  • Associate or Professional level vendor certifications (preferred).
  • ITIL certifications (preferred).

Pay

$75,000–$85,000 per year.
