Field Archaeologist
About the role
The WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team are located across the United States, with over 30 cultural resources professionals housed in our offices in Louisville, Kentucky; Lexington, Kentucky; Kansas City, Missouri; Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri. WSP has immediate openings for On-Call Field Archaeologists with a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites.
Responsibilities
- Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels)
- Archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation
- Excavation of cultural features
- Recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials
- Use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information
- Work effectively as part of a team
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in anthropology / archaeology or a closely related field
- Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
- Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and be able to follow instructions
Additional / Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with Pre-Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region
- Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis
Qualifications

Hourly rates are industry competitive, (depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience)
