Fiberglass Chop Gun Operator position focused on safely operating chop guns to produce high-quality fiberglass products.

Responsibilities

  • Operates chop gun in accordance with SOPs and Operations Manual.
  • Understands different materials used in chopping operations and their application.
  • Applies paste and/or liquid wax to molds as needed.
  • Ensures adequate material supply for weekly production.
  • Uses laminate thickness gauge to check part thickness, especially on channel bottoms.
  • Produces required quantity of parts within established time, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Measures finished parts with tape measure and fixtures to ensure compliance with functional, quality, and cosmetic specifications.
  • Marks and cuts parts correctly according to the cut sheet.
  • Maintains molds in good working condition and cleans them before returning to the yard.
  • Maintains logs and records of units produced, including errors resulting in rejected or discarded pieces.
  • Inspects equipment prior to use for proper setup and alignment; performs basic and routine adjustments and maintenance.
  • Keeps guns clean and well-maintained; reports leaks to maintenance immediately.
  • Identifies malfunctions or out-of-tolerance parts; adjusts controls to correct errors.
  • Inspects and measures completed production units to identify defects caused by equipment setup.
  • Starts or restarts equipment using pressure calibration steps at the beginning/end of shifts and after power outages.
  • Uses a grinder to cut parts to length.
  • Reads blueprints and tape measures (imperial and metric).
  • Reports time and material used on each job daily.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  • Complies with company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; at least one year of related experience preferred.
  • Associates degree or completion of a related apprenticeship program preferred.
  • On-the-job training may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Ability to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of or ability to quickly learn production equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Good communication skills; must read and write in English to fill out daily reports.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions involving frequent bending and stooping.
  • Regularly required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to squat, stand, stoop, and bend for long periods.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, or hear.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 75 lbs and a maximum of 100 lbs.
  • Visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced.

Pay

$18–$20 hourly wage
