Fiber Splicer

Responsibilities

• Prep and splice fiber optic cables
• Locate problem areas and perform other repairs as needed
• Proficiency with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment
• Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH network
• Install and maintain network systems for private lines
• Determine solutions for any issues preventing the service from operating normally
• Initiate test and turn-up procedures with System Engineers in accordance with company compliance standards
• Collect and interpret engineering documentation, to include schematics, fiber management systems and performance OTDR reports
• Support field maintenance teams, including: IT, regional engineering teams and any other department as related to fiber network
• Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH
• Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades
• Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with 3rd party providers
• Work within the engineering team to ensure all connections are within required specifications
• Work on an on-call schedule rotation as required

Qualifications

• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• A high school diploma or recognized equivalent required
• Excellent oral and written communications skills in English
• Active and clean, non-restrictive, state issued driver’s license in State where hired
• At least 3 years hands-on/field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment & restoration
• Demonstrated proficiency using fusion splicing machine
• Understanding of underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication, including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks
• Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDR’s, optical power meters and other fiber testing equipment as required
• SCTE certification a plus
• Ability to work days, weekends, evenings and holidays and participate with on-call rotation as needed
