Fiber Splicer

About the role

Install new fiber-optic cable lines (underground and aerial) and maintain existing cables, including evaluation, testing, and repair.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and splice fiber-optic cables using fusion splicers and fiber test equipment.
• Locate problem areas and perform repairs on the fiber network.
• Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH networks.
• Install and maintain network systems for private lines; diagnose and resolve service-affecting issues.
• Execute test and turn-up procedures with System Engineers following company compliance standards.
• Collect and interpret engineering documentation: schematics, fiber-management systems, and OTDR reports.
• Support field maintenance teams (IT, regional engineering, and other departments) on fiber-network matters.
• Perform demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network and FTTH.
• Maintain accurate network documentation for changes and upgrades.
• Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with third-party providers.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to ensure all connections meet required specifications.
• Participate in an on-call rotation schedule as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or recognized equivalent.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Active, clean, non-restrictive state-issued driver’s license in the state of hire.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment, and restoration.
• Demonstrated proficiency using fusion splicing machines.
• Understanding of broadband communication concepts, including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks.
• Ability to use advanced test equipment such as OTDRs, optical power meters, and other fiber-testing tools.
• SCTE certification is a plus.
• Willingness to work days, weekends, evenings, holidays, and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
