About the role
FiberTel is seeking an experienced Fiber Splicer to join our growing fiber-construction team in Springville, Utah. The Fiber Splicer performs complex splicing operations on high-count fiber networks while providing leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to junior splicers. The role operates primarily from a mobile splice trailer and includes participation in an on-call rotation for network restoration and emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Perform mass fusion and ribbon splicing on high-count fiber-optic cable.
- Execute splicing activities on both aerial and underground fiber networks.
- Support FTTP construction projects, network relocations, and commercial and residential fiber deployments.
- Interpret and splice directly from fiber designs, splice matrices, network schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber-qualification equipment.
- Analyze test results, identify faults, and troubleshoot network issues.
- Prepare accurate turnover packages and maintain detailed project documentation.
- Ensure all splicing work meets FiberTel, customer, and industry quality standards.
- Mentor and train junior splicers, providing technical guidance and field support.
- Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and construction crews to meet project schedules.
- Maintain equipment, tools, vehicles, and mobile splice-trailer operations.
- Participate in scheduled on-call rotations and emergency restoration activities.
- Follow all company safety policies and industry best practices.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on fiber-optic splicing experience.
- Extensive experience with fusion splicing, ribbon splicing, and high-count fiber cable.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting fiber designs, splice matrices, and engineering prints.
- Experience performing OTDR and power-meter testing and analyzing test results.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in both aerial and underground fiber environments.
- Ability to work independently and lead field operations with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel locally as required and participate in on-call rotations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience leading or mentoring fiber-splicing crews.
- Experience with FTTP network construction and activation projects.
- Knowledge of commercial and residential fiber architectures.
- Fiber-optic industry certifications or manufacturer-specific splicing certifications.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time hourly position expected to work 50–60 hours per week in an outdoor environment. The role is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions—extreme cold, rain, sleet, snow, humidity, high temperatures, and high wind—and may involve changes in terrain, traffic, urban, and rural settings. Occasional exposure to natural gas, electrical-shock risk, and moderate-to-loud noise levels may occur.

Pay
$28–34/hour, depending on experience.
Schedule
50–60 hours per week, including on-call rotations.
