Job Summary
As the Fiber Splicing Technician, you will ultimately be responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cables. You will coordinate fiber installation and maintenance activities while ensuring high-quality network performance. As the Fiber Splicing Technician, your customers are Congruex field teams and telecommunications clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through network reliability, precision workmanship, and safe execution.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)
- Perform end-of-line network testing to verify light levels and balanced signal transmission
- Prepare, label, and organize cables to minimize installation errors and improve efficiency
- Build, splice, seal, and maintain fiber cases, enclosures, tie points, and jumper cases
- Read and interpret splice matrices, blueprints, and redline maps to identify fiber routes and assignments
- Perform troubleshooting, audits, case swaps, and rehabilitation of gel-filled fiber enclosures
- Pull cable through duct packages, conduits, underground, and aerial lines using manual, blowing, or mechanical methods
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Required Qualifications
- OSHA 10 certification required
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience in fiber splicing, telecommunications construction, or fiber optic installation preferred
- Experience reading blueprints, splice matrices, and utility maps
- Ability to perform physical labor, climb ladders and poles, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to distinguish colors accurately for proper fiber splicing and connections
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal
- Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and timekeeping
- Ability to maintain a neat, organized, and safe work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with underground and aerial fiber installations
- Familiarity with fiber optic testing and splicing tools
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, squat, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods
- Work performed outdoors, in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at heights
- Must be able to wear safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and other required PPE
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
