Responsibilities

  • Splice & test fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and indoor environments.
  • Conduct and validate testing of network equipment to ensure adherence to requirements and manufacturer specifications.
  • Work with the Network Operations Center for final acceptance and testing of newly installed equipment and rings.
  • Perform site surveys to ensure quality installation of racks, fiber cable, etc.
  • Report defects to the fiber manager and OSP Field Engineers.
  • Participate in on-call rotation schedule for nights and weekends.
  • Perform hardware and software updates and changes to remote site equipment as necessary.
  • Complete and maintain records of work completed, including splice diagrams, patch panels, and test results.
  • Interface with customers and carriers for service delivery and assurance.
  • Work independently for extended periods.
  • Respond to customer troubles on a 24-hour basis.
  • Work closely with Inspectors, Engineering, and customers.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s license required.
  • One (1)+ years of experience in fiber optic networks and/or Outside Plant fiber experience.
  • Prior work experience with base station equipment, NMS, equipment installation and maintenance, and experience in construction, installation, and maintenance phases preferred.
  • Prior use of fiber optic test equipment and knowledge of NESC, NEC, and OSHA standards preferred.
  • Experience splicing ribbon and loose tube cables.

  • Knowledge of fiber optics termination panels.
  • Ability to operate DOT registered vehicles.
  • Knowledge of Outside Plant Construction techniques (aerial & underground).

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects, and smooth operation of department.
