Job Summary
Safely works in both tight spaces overhead and underground to repair or install overhead and underground communication lines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
- 5 years prior experience in the skill of splicing communication lines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current Class A CDL or willingness and ability to obtain
- Current DOT Medical Exam card or willingness to obtain
- Current First Aid/CPR certification or willingness and ability to obtain
KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Fine motor skills and visual acuity is required for success
- Demonstrate the ability to read instructions, write reports and work with computers
- Ability to differentiate between colors
- Must be willing and able to join Montana IBEW under outside communication contract upon hire
- May need to respond under stressful or urgent situations
- Awareness of all Safety regulations for Line Companies; knowledge of all Utility, N.E.S.C., DOT and OSHA Safety Rules
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately and thoroughly performs splicing of communication lines throughout the area served by the organization
- Knowledge of splicing both fiber optic as well as copper lines required
- Performs all work and handles all tools in accordance with accepted safety rules, regulations, and practices relating to the trade
- Interpret specifications and diagrams to properly connect lines as required by the job plans
- Insulates now joints and fits with lead sleeves
- Applies cable sheathing to repel moisture
- When appropriate, practices barricading on public highways and public right-of-ways to include the proper use of warning signs, devices, and flagging procedures
- Accurately and legibly completes, as required or assigned: Tailboards, Service Orders, Accident Reports, Interruption Reports, etc.
- Maintains ongoing, effective communication with direct supervisor regarding the specifics of each assignment, problems that may occur, and questions that may arise
- Reports immediately any known hazardous conditions affecting the crew or public that exists on lines, stations, etc. Make suggestions on revisions needed
- Maintains and properly uses all trucks, equipment, and tools assigned to him/her to ensure all are in proper working order at all times
- Performs daily inspection on trucks and equipment completing the inspection forms required
- Responds to duty calls as soon as possible, day or night, seven days a week, to correct the problem and/or restore service
- Be willing to perform all of the duties for all of the positions in his/her crew, according to the job descriptions, in order to meet the requirements and deadlines of the work being performed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Compensation is per Montana Communication Contract, IBEW Local 206, 532 or 768
- Benefits are tied to union membership

- Retirement plan contribution of 6% of earnings
- Retirement plan contribution is not a match contribution occurs in the absence of employee contribution to retirement plan
