About the Role

The teacher will implement daily student instruction based on the Nevada Academic Content State Standards and the Lyon County School District approved curriculum. The role involves creating and maintaining an educational atmosphere that encourages effective student learning and supports school and district programs and goals. This position adheres to the LCSD Professional Standards for Licensed Employees and reports directly to the school site administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Administer district curriculum aligned with Nevada State Standards and/or Common Core State Standards.
  • Ensure all students learn in a respectful environment.
  • Create and maintain a positive, orderly, and academically focused instructional environment.
  • Develop and implement effective lessons using the LCSD lesson plan template.
  • Analyze student progress and provide individualized instruction and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with special services such as IEPs and other related mandates.
  • Provide classroom management and discipline to ensure safety.
  • Actively contribute to the School Performance Plan (SPP) process.
  • Ensure compliance with assessment regulations and guidelines.
  • Facilitate an effective advisory program as outlined by administration and/or district.
  • Handle stress and interact professionally with administration, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Integrate technology into instructional programs, curriculum, and lessons.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records in the student software system (e.g., Infinite Campus).
  • Participate in other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to provide instruction in a secondary classroom.
  • Work cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community members.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum and student goals.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques aligned with objectives to meet student needs.
  • Participate as a collaborative member with faculty and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.
  • Improve professional competence through continued education and in-service training.
  • Communicate professionally in written, oral, and non-verbal terms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Must possess or be able to acquire a Nevada teaching license issued by the Nevada Department of Education, certified in the relevant subject area.

Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Strength, dexterity, coordination, and vision to use a keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
  • Strength and stamina to bend, stoop, sit, and stand for long periods.
  • Dexterity and coordination to handle files, paper, and occasional lifting of materials (up to 25 pounds).
  • Reaching for items above and below waist and head level, including bending, squatting, and stooping.
  • Manual dexterity and cognitive ability to operate educational technology (e.g., LCD projector, SmartBoard, iPads/Tablets).
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to climate-controlled classrooms and outdoor weather conditions ranging from mild to extreme temperatures.
  • Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud on occasional to frequent time periods.
  • May involve work in crowded environments.
  • Potential hazards include classroom furniture, playground/office equipment, communicable diseases, chemicals, and power/hand-operated machinery.

Pay

Annual salary range: $50,761–$92,279, with employer-paid retirement, dependent upon previous experience.

Schedule

9-month term of employment (185/189 days).
