Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs routine manual labor-intensive tasks necessary to maintain the Tohono O'odham Nation's boundary fence, to include various maintenance tasks, light carpentry work. Knowledge and sensitivity to Sonoran desert plants, environment and animals. Extended shift scheduling.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair on the Nation's boundary fence line.
- Establish and gather information needed to ensure proper placement of fence line.
- Align posts, using lines or by sighting and verify vertical alignment of posts.
- Measure, layout and mark posthole positions, following instructions, drawings or specifications.
- Dig postholes using spades, posthole diggers or power-driven augers.
- Stretch wire, wire mesh, or chain link fencing between posts, and attach to fencing frames.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Load and unload fence materials delivered and other materials.
- Operate electrical powered manual tools and other equipment in a safe and proper manner.
- Reports tasks beyond capability or scope to the Supervisor.
- Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.
- Mix and pour posthole cement concrete.
- May camp overnight in identified safe location.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of applicable tribal laws and regulations and requirements.
- Knowledge of writing, spelling, and some basic math.
- Knowledge of safety requirements and practices.
- Knowledge of various hand and electrical tools.
- Skill in outdoor manual work/tasks.
- Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.
- Skill in understanding and following instructions.
- Skill in maintaining privileged confidential information.
- Skill in working extended hours and various work schedules.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

- Skill in traveling within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation.
Minimum Qualifications
- One (1) month work experience in fence construction/repair to perform the duties of this position.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- The employee is regularly exposed to heat, cold and other adverse field conditions.
