Job Summary
The position involves two distinct roles: On-Call Juvenile Detention Officer and Urinalysis Technician. The pay differs for each function.
On-Call Juvenile Detention Officer
- Supervise and care for juveniles detained in the Island County Detention Center.
- Function under minimal supervision and maintain a safe and secure work environment.
- Follow established guidelines and procedures, document daily activities/movements.
- Perform intake functions including interviewing, booking, and establishing criteria for admittance or release.
- Maintain visual supervision of youth, operate surveillance equipment, and assist with visitation procedures.
- Provide crisis counseling, guide and train juveniles, prepare detailed incident reports, and assist with personal grooming.
- Communicate with fellow officers and law enforcement professionals.
- Use appropriate physical force and restraint techniques, and maintain proficiency in defensive tactics.
- Operate motor vehicles to escort and transport juvenile detainees.
Urinalysis Technician
- Administer drug testing to Female Adult Drug Court participants on weekends.
- Monitor specimen collection, provide good documentation, and observe participant behavior.
- Work independently and complete required tasks.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years old at the time of appointment.
- Free of any convictions with sexual motivation, illegal drug-related or alcohol-related crimes, crimes involving the use of a firearm, violent offenses, or domestic violence.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License or obtain one by the time of employment.
- High School diploma or GED and relevant experience.
- Lived experience as defined by previous involvement with the criminal legal system and/or behavioral health services.
- Volunteer/employment experience in working with youth.
