FEL Driver

About the Role

A Commercial FEL Driver operates a heavy-duty truck equipped with a front-end load lift attachment to provide pick-up service of containers—often weighing over 1,000 lbs—filled with waste or recyclable material. The driver transports material to disposal, MRF, transfer, or recycling facilities once the truck reaches legal weight limits or maximum load capacity. The role requires maneuvering the truck in and out of restricted spaces, physically opening gates to service containers, and performing DOT-required pre- and post-trip inspections.

Responsibilities

• Drive a heavy diesel truck to and from customer locations and disposal areas, navigating high-traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots.
• Perform highly skilled backing maneuvers to position the truck and containers safely and efficiently.
• Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift, load, compact, and dispose of waste or recyclable material at designated facilities.
• Move containers to accessible positions and ensure all enclosure gates are properly closed.
• Clean waste from the packer blade and truck body after each landfill or transfer station run.
• Read route sheets to determine daily schedules and service customers as identified or assigned by dispatch or supervisors.
• Courteously interact with customers, dispatchers, and supervisors.
• Clean up accidental spills of waste or recyclable materials in the surrounding area.
• Notify Route Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, property damage, service interruptions, or potential safety hazards (e.g., blocked containers, closed lots, or streets).
• Complete required documentation, including route/productivity sheets, Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs), and other forms.
• Perform all driver check-in procedures at the end of the day upon returning to the facility.
• Follow all company policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct, as well as all safety guidelines.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
