Feed Mill Utility Associate - 1st Shift

About the role

The Feed Mill Utility Associate performs housekeeping, cleaning, and tasks associated with ensuring the work area is safe, secure, presentable, and operational. This position also processes visitors, vendors, and ensures that traffic flow and truck deliveries are handled correctly and orderly. The position assists with receiving feed ingredients and responds to emergency situations as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily housekeeping procedures in the Feed Mill and conduct grounds maintenance.
  • Control access of staff, visitors, and trucks entering the property; verify credentials and obtain approval from appropriate personnel.
  • Review and log inspection paperwork for incoming and outgoing trucks; direct traffic and coordinate routes with appropriate personnel.
  • Understand basic animal food safety and personal hygiene as it relates to the protection of animal food.
  • Perform all work in compliance with company policies, Animal Welfare guidelines, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Notify supervisor when a suspected Quality or Food Safety event occurs.
  • Perform daily cleaning of the Feed Mill facilities and grounds.
  • Inspect and record inspections of Feed Mill equipment during off-peak hours to ensure proper operation.
  • Report any issues or discrepancies with logs, trucks, etc., to appropriate personnel.
  • Follow all safety protocols, including wearing required personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with emergency protocols as needed.
  • Assist in receiving duties of feed ingredients when required.
  • Perform additional relevant duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Current and valid driver’s license and meet MVR requirements.
  • Ability to complete required logs and forms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, irregular, and extended shift hours.
  • Ability to follow detailed processes and work with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to climb a 125-foot ladder and work at heights of at least 40 feet above a structure.
  • Ability to work non-standard shifts (holidays, weekends, and/or extended hours) as needed.
  • Ability to stand and move around for extended periods during the shift.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, dry, and/or wet).
  • Ability to work in dusty and noisy conditions.
  • Must be able to wear required protective equipment: hard hat, eye protection, vest, hearing protection.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift 60–100 pounds.
  • Ability to work in low or awkward, strenuous positions.

Safety Requirements

  • Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs.
  • Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory (hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, mask, safety vest).
  • Exposure to noise requiring hearing protection (>85 decibels).
