Federal Work Study - Hitchcock Field and Fork Pantry Student Assistant

This position is open to all students who are eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) and to work on campus in Gainesville. Students must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be enrolled for at least six credit hours per semester. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis for a maximum of 10 hours per week.

About the Role

The Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry is dedicated to building a more food-secure campus for the UF community. Responsible for providing free access to nutritious food for any campus member, the Pantry is at the forefront of meeting campus members’ basic food needs. The Field & Fork Pantry is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing, motivated students to support the daily operations of the pantry. Applicants should feel comfortable engaging with students, staff, or faculty guests in a confidential and respectful manner.

Responsibilities

• Provide superior customer service to pantry guests.
• Field sensitive questions related to pantry shopping eligibility, food category limits, community resources, and media requests.
• Ensure pantry sales floor is stocked, clean, and organized according to operating procedures.
• Assist with product prep and processing such as sorting, stocking, repackaging bulk items and fresh produce, and organizing food donations.
• Assist in providing training support for volunteers.
• Assist with other Field & Fork Pantry projects and programs as needed.

Schedule

• Up to 10 hours per week.
• Must be able to commit to Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
• Attend onboarding and training upon employment (details TBD).
• Ideal start date: August 2026.

Pay

$14/hour, increasing to $15/hour at the end of September.

Requirements

• Eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS) and able to work on campus in Gainesville.
• Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be enrolled for at least six credit hours per semester.
• Able to start in August 2026.
• Able to work physically in the Hitchcock Field & Fork Pantry during office hours.
• Able to commit 10 hours per week for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
• Able to attend required training and pantry staff meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience, research, employment, teaching, volunteering, presenting, or student organization participation in food service, retail, customer service, food insecurity, social services, public health, nutrition, or wellness.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work on a team and connect with others.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Strong interest in food security, social services, food access, and/or food systems.
