The Federal Security Manager I will provide a visual security presence to ensure visitors, clients, and employees have a safe and pleasant experience while inside the facility; deter and detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal behavior; assist and support the Facility Security Officer in administering and enforcing security measures necessary for implementing requirements of the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual, Government security regulations, contractual security requirements, and company security policies and procedures. This position will work day hours Monday – Friday and report directly to the Regional Manager, Federal Security. This role requires on-site work hours to support a 24x7x365 data center environment and is not eligible for remote and/or hybrid work.

Responsibilities

• Frontline supervision of contracted security staff and daily security operations
• Implement and execute security measures for adherence to Government and company security policies and procedures
• Ensure all security systems are fully functional to include Access Control, Visitor Management, Service Now, and CCTV
• Aid with investigations of security violations, suspected compromises, and security-related matters
• Proactively inform management of security-related developments, anomalies, and situations that affect the security posture of the facility
• Create, assign, and issue facility access badges to authorized personnel
• Respond to all emergencies, such as medical, fire, intrusions, and other threats
• Implement emergency response plans and evacuation procedures, which includes conducting fire evacuation drills
• Ensure all security equipment is kept in excellent working condition through regular inspection and by following QTS preventative maintenance programs
• Ensure all inventories are received in correct unit count and good condition
• Ensure security patrols are completed in accordance with QTS policies and procedures
• Conduct regular training for security staff
• Conduct security briefings for QTS staff, customers, contractors, and sub-contractor construction personnel
• Develop and maintain working relationships with Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement as well as Fire and EMS
• Perform security officer duties as needed to ensure efficient operations and guest service standards are met
• Provide reports as needed for internal and external audits
• Program CCTVs
• Provide customers with monthly reports
• Provide Operations leadership with monthly reports
• Run monthly capital labor reports
• Run monthly badge change reports
• Maintain and manage Key Watcher System, add new customers, take inventory, and investigate discrepancies
• Update customers space/location and key inventory logs
• Work closely with the Operations Service Center to resolve ticketing issues and function as an onsite advisor
• Perform weekly backups
• Review End of Service and labor tracking reports
• Direct the provisioning/deprovisioning of contracted security officers
• Train, manage, and support contracted guard personnel to provide quality customer service interactions
• Ensure contracted guard service models QTS culture and lives QTS customer creed
• Perform additional security duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience in lieu of degree
• Ten or more years of professional experience
• Five or more years of related experience in Physical Security Management
• US Citizenship for this position is required by law due to federal customer contracts

Preferred Qualifications

• Fifteen or more years of professional experience
• Ten or more years of related experience in Physical Security Management
• Three or more years of experience with Data Center Security
• Two or more years of experience with Security Systems like Lenel or Honeywell (Prowatch)
• Two or more years of experience managing direct security personnel or security contractors

• Proficient computer skills
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in Access Control Systems and related software
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; for the purpose of public interaction and report writing
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to handle typical emergency and crisis situations efficiently and effectively
• Ability to walk, stand, or sit for at least 8 hours
• Knowledge and experience conducting investigations and enforcing policies and procedures
• Position may involve frequent typing, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and lifting. Lifting requirements may range from <10 lbs. – 50 lbs. on a regular basis with heavier weights done in conjunction with other individuals or lifting aids
• May require 24x7x365 on-call responsibilities
