FDA Public Health and Regulatory Research Fellowship

About the role

The FDA Public Health and Regulatory Research Fellowship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to FDA's mission of protecting and promoting public health. The fellowship is part of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Research Participation Programs at the FDA Office of Commissioner (OC).

Responsibilities

• Participate in research and analytical activities supporting FDA's domestic and global regulatory science mission.
• Contribute to research projects focusing on substandard and falsified medical products, research supporting foreign office operations, artificial intelligence integration in FDA research and operations, and generic drug approval programs and market competition.
• Collaborate with mentors to research, draft, and contribute to scientific papers and policy-relevant publications.
• Engage in structured learning opportunities designed to build experience in regulatory science, global health policy, and data analysis.
• Participate in relevant training programs and seminars, and develop skills in scientific writing, policy analysis, and emerging technologies such as AI.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and gain exposure to the full breadth of FDA's regulatory and scientific operations.

Requirements

This fellowship is available to U.S. citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR) only. Applicants must have completed an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in relevant fields such as Chemistry and Materials Sciences, Communications and Graphics Design, Computer, Information, and Data Sciences, Earth and Geosciences, Engineering, Environmental and Marine Sciences, Life Health and Medical Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, Science & Engineering-related, or Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Qualifications

The qualified candidate should be currently pursuing or have received an associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in one of the relevant fields. Applicants must have read and signed the FDA Education and Training Agreement within 30 days of their start date.

Benefits

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience, and participants do not become employees of FDA, DOE, or the program administrator. Proof of health insurance is required for participation.

Pay

The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience.

Schedule

The appointment will initially be for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FDA and is contingent on the availability of funds.
