We are hiring systems engineers at all experience levels to grow our FAST Labs™ team at our Merrimack, New Hampshire location. Virtual interviews will be accommodated for candidates who are not local to the area.

About the role

The FAST Labs business area is the innovative research and development engine within the Electronic Systems Sector of BAE Systems. We operate in a fast-paced environment, creating prototype, proof-of-concept, and low-volume products with minimal process and documentation requirements. FAST Labs defines the next generation of technology across defense and commercial portfolios, developing advanced capabilities in advanced electronics, sensors and processing, AI, autonomy, RF, EO/IR, cyber, microelectronics, and more.

We collaborate across a broad innovation ecosystem, including DoD/IC/OGA labs, universities, small businesses, and venture firms, to develop advanced technologies for national warfighting mission needs. This role requires full-time, on-site work due to the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and secure access to sensitive information.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and document early lifecycle RF/EW/Cyber systems and associated capabilities using digital engineering best practices.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary, cross-functional teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Own technical products critical for system development success.
  • Participate in product integration and verification.
  • Develop test and verification strategies to minimize program cost and technical risk.
  • Define test and verification methods, events, and constraints for all system requirements.
  • Collaborate with customer and internal program leadership to coordinate, schedule, and ensure readiness for test events.
  • Travel and work at remote sites to support test events, meetings, and training activities.

Requirements

  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in optical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with or knowledge of systems and "system of systems" architecture development processes.
  • Experience with or knowledge of applying digital engineering (DE), including Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, to enable system development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Top Secret Clearance or active U.S. TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Master’s Degree or PhD in optical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • Hands-on experience or knowledge in any of the following areas:
    • Use of MATLAB or other programming languages/tools.
    • Digital Communication waveforms or Digital Signal Processing (DSP).
    • Test equipment including RF sources, pulse generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, power meters, power supplies, and digital multimeters.
    • Test and experimentation efforts in relevant environments.
  • Experience with modern, agile software development methods.
  • Experience with laboratory integration and test activities for RF/Cyber/EW capabilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing requirements.
  • Experience documenting, communicating, and working with multi-disciplinary teams to develop data-driven designs, results, reports, and presentations.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $79,365 – $134,921. Individual salaries are determined by factors including business considerations, local market conditions, internal equity, and candidate qualifications such as skills, education, and experience.
