About the role

The High School Music Teacher designs and delivers a comprehensive music program for students in grades 9–12. This multifaceted role requires a versatile educator capable of fostering a deep appreciation for music through non-performance classroom instruction (General Music), while simultaneously directing and conducting elite performance ensembles (Concert/Marching Band and String/Full Orchestra). The ideal candidate inspires artistic growth, technical proficiency, and collaboration across diverse student skill levels.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver a comprehensive music program for students in grades 9–12.
  • Foster a deep appreciation for music through non-performance classroom instruction (General Music).
  • Direct and conduct elite performance ensembles (Concert/Marching Band and String/Full Orchestra).
  • Inspire artistic growth, technical proficiency, and collaboration across diverse student skill levels.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be committed to the Hawaii State Department of Education's commitment to hiring highly qualified teachers.
  • Must have a valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.
  • Must enroll in a Teacher's Education Program and meet Hawaii licensing requirements within 3 years of employment.

Benefits

  • Compensation: 10-month teachers are compensated for the applicable Bargaining Unit 05 10-month salary schedule for working a 10-month work year.

Pay

New employees can expect their first paycheck within the first 3 pay periods of their start date. Payday is on the 5th and 20th (or previous business day) of every month.

Schedule

Certificated 10-Month Teachers enjoy a range of competitive benefits including:

  • Compensation: 10-month teachers shall be compensated for the applicable Bargaining Unit 05 10-month salary schedule for working a 10-month work year.
