Farmworkers Rights Division (Staff Attorney

The Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is seeking a Staff Attorney to join the Farmworkers Rights Division. GLSP is a statewide, nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to providing free civil legal services to low-income individuals, promoting equal access to justice, and addressing critical issues such as family law, housing, access to public benefits, eviction prevention, farmworkers' rights, and educational access.

About the role

The Staff Attorney will represent Georgia's farmworkers in employment-related legal matters, focusing on issues like wage theft, discrimination, human trafficking, and contract violations. The ideal candidate will have experience in representing farmworkers and a strong commitment to social justice.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal representation to farmworkers facing employment-related issues
  • Advocate for fair treatment and compensation for farmworkers
  • Engage in community outreach and education about farmworkers' rights
  • Collaborate with other GLSP attorneys and staff to develop comprehensive strategies for farmworkers' rights
  • Participate in case management and strategy sessions

Requirements

  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school
  • Admission to the Georgia Bar
  • Experience in representing farmworkers or similar vulnerable populations
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Spanish is preferred but not required
