Family Support Specialist
Area of Interest: Behavioral Health Services | FTE: 0.8 (4 days per week, no weekends) | Shift: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
About the role
Are you passionate about helping children and families feel confident, empowered, and in control of their health and wellness? We’re looking for a Family Peer Support Specialist who can bring compassion, encouragement, and lived experience to a role that makes a real difference. In this role, you’ll partner with children and families to promote a “whole-health” approach—supporting not just physical health, but emotional, social, and overall well-being. You’ll be a trusted source of encouragement, an advocate for families, and a positive role model as they navigate their own journey toward recovery and wellness.
Responsibilities
- Assist children and families in identifying personal goals for recovery and resiliency and determining interventions based on these goals.
- Provide resources and referrals to community and social support services.
- Provide and advocate for effective recovery-based services and reduce barriers to access care.
- Attend provider team meetings as necessary to ensure appropriate collaboration of services and treatment for the child and family.
- Maintain a working knowledge of parent-child interaction and child development, the dynamics of abuse and neglect, and demonstrate skills in discussing these topics or related topics.
- Assist parents in making and attending appointments for doctors, social services, etc.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED completed is required.
- Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, or another Human Service related field is preferred.
- Must have own experience as a parent or primary caregiver of a child with emotional, behavioral, or mental health needs.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Experience with providing service to individuals with severe and persistent behavioral health needs is preferred.
- Certified Family Peer Support Specialist within 6 months of employment.
- Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons (Class D license).
