About the role

The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting at-risk youth and families through various services and interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and family sessions using Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Facilitate the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) virtually, in-office, or at other locations as needed
  • Coordinate referrals, service planning, and document services for assigned caseload
  • Respond promptly and professionally to crises situations with clients at the office, during home visits, and on phone calls (within business hours) using independent judgement and discretion
  • Develop, monitor, and review treatment plans designed to increase strengths, address needs, and reduce conflict in the home
  • Aid in emergency shelter placements and/or finding respite care when determined appropriate
  • Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the program supervisor and all appropriate state and county enforcement agencies
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and UCAP events
  • Participate in weekly face-to-face or phone supervision with the supervisor
  • Frequent travel to client homes and to other community partners as needed
  • Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and state/federal partners
  • Implement BCFS HHS safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations
  • Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the BCFS employee policy manual
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English
  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position
  • Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Travel as needed

Qualifications

  • Maintain certificates required for the position including but not limited to First Aid and CPR
  • Valid Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record and reliable transportation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens
  • Provide proof or work eligibility status upon request
  • Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years)

Skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in computer software relevant to the position
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques
  • Experience with crisis intervention and case management
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English)
