About the role
The Family Support Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting at-risk youth and families through various services and interventions.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and family sessions using Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Facilitate the Strengthening Families Program (SFP) virtually, in-office, or at other locations as needed
- Coordinate referrals, service planning, and document services for assigned caseload
- Respond promptly and professionally to crises situations with clients at the office, during home visits, and on phone calls (within business hours) using independent judgement and discretion
- Develop, monitor, and review treatment plans designed to increase strengths, address needs, and reduce conflict in the home
- Aid in emergency shelter placements and/or finding respite care when determined appropriate
- Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the program supervisor and all appropriate state and county enforcement agencies
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and UCAP events
- Participate in weekly face-to-face or phone supervision with the supervisor
- Frequent travel to client homes and to other community partners as needed
- Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and state/federal partners
- Implement BCFS HHS safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency
- Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations
- Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the BCFS employee policy manual
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English
- Work in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position
- Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Travel as needed
Qualifications
- Maintain certificates required for the position including but not limited to First Aid and CPR
- Valid Texas Driver’s license with a clear driving record and reliable transportation
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens
- Provide proof or work eligibility status upon request
- Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years)
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in computer software relevant to the position
- Knowledge of motivational interviewing techniques
- Experience with crisis intervention and case management
- Bilingual (Spanish and English)
