Family Practitioner/General Practitioner
Columbia Primary Care Clinic is a collegial group of 6 Family Physicians sharing a spacious clinic in downtown Trail. The clinic offers a friendly and efficient environment with support from experienced Medical Office Assistants (MOAs) and a Registered Nurse. Primary Care Network (PCN) support includes a Social Worker, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Primary Care RN, Respiratory Therapist, Dietitian, and Clinical Pharmacologist.
About the Role
We are looking for a physician to help out in the clinic between February and August 2026. There is the opportunity to combine family practice with other work such as OR assists, Hospitalist shifts, GP obstetrics, GP pediatrics, GP psychiatry, Long-term care, or ER shifts. For those who enjoy teaching, Trail is a UBC teaching center, and the clinic is involved in teaching medical students.
The clinic currently bills under the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) payment model, which locums are now also able to bill under. We use Med Access as our EMR and provide a mix of in-person and virtual care.
The clinic layout includes a welcoming waiting room, a minor operating room (OR), and each GP has an office/exam room with a view of the Columbia River and a well-equipped second exam room.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical care for patients of all ages
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions
- Perform preventive care, screenings, and immunizations
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Prescribe and monitor medications
- Perform minor in-office procedures (e.g., suturing, lesion removal, IUDs)
- Provide patient education and counseling
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and allied health providers
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records
- Collaborate with clinic team members and participate in quality improvement
Specialty Support
Specialty support is available at the nearby Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital and includes Anesthesia, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Internal Medicine, ICU, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Plastics, Urology, Pathology, ENT, and Ophthalmology.

Living in the Kootenays is amazing. Nearby Rossland has been named Canada’s Best Ski Town by US Today for two years in a row and features 2,919 feet of vertical at Red Resort. The area offers great cross-country skiing at Blackjack, mountain biking on over 200 km of maintained trails, hiking, an aquatic center in Trail, and opportunities to play nearly every organized sport. The region also boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, good restaurants, grocery stores, and shopping.
Pay
Estimated remuneration for the locum position is $400,000 - $550,000. Overhead is 20/80. Physicians may be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA).
