Family Peer Support Specialist (Missoula, MT)

Responsibilities

• Maintains an individual caseload established with the designated Service Administrator and Service Director.
• Maintains confidentiality in completing all job tasks.
• Provides support to individuals and their families to manage in the least restrictive setting and enhance self-sufficiency skills.
• Works closely with AWARE’s Clinical Professionals in providing services as assigned and developed through prescribed curriculum lesson plans.
• Understands child development and evidenced-based practices.
• Spends time with client and family as assigned and/or as identified on the treatment plan.
• Assesses client, family, and environments.
• Coordinates and conducts the team process to develop a comprehensive Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP), monitors this plan as required, and updates the ITP every 90 days and/or as needed.
• Writes prescriptive programs to increase or maintain skills utilizing a wrap-around philosophy while focusing on family engagement.
• Assists the person’s entry into service and monitors the needed services throughout the service system.
• Documents all contact with or on behalf of the individual being served in prescribed format.
• Maintains individual charts per AWARE policy, practice, and supervisory directive.
• Provides recreational and social opportunities for the client and families, including family nights and activity groups.
• Helps the family problem solve when issues arise (crisis management).
• Reports behavioral and emotional observations of clients and/or family members to Support Team.
• Trains family and individuals utilizing a variety of approaches, curriculum, and teaching methods.
• Supports the family and individual in a variety of settings as determined by the plan of care.
• Performs coordination, monitoring, referral, and follow-up activities, such as attending/conducting team meetings, arranging for individual therapy, and locating additional supports/resources as defined by State of Montana and AWARE policies.
• Assures that any person served by this position is screened for and assisted in enrollment in the Mental Health Access Plan and is monitored for enrollment needs.
• Utilizes H.E.L.P. (including therapeutic holds) when a client is a danger to self or others; performs basic First Aid and/or CPR when needed.
• Attends and participates in mandatory training, in-services, staff meetings, and committees as assigned.
• Demonstrates the willingness and ability to productively utilize work time to meet the needs of individuals served, including meeting specific fiscal goals (billing, caseload number maintenance, weekly).
• Records notes, billing units, assessments, referrals, and other data entry assignments via AWARE’s Electronic Healthcare Record System.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• A Bachelor of Art (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology, Social Work, or related field is preferred, along with one (1) year of direct work experience. An educational equivalency may be considered depending on the specific nature of the applicant/employee.
• Current Family Peer Support certificate or willingness to complete training and obtain certificate.
• Valid Montana Driver’s License, along with a clean motor vehicle record.

Pay

Family peer support specialists earn $19.75 - $21.92 per hour.
