Family Peer Specialist

About the role

Work with the CN Guidance Youth ACT Team to deliver services to individuals diagnosed with severe emotional disturbance (SED) and their families.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a role model for recipients and/or their identified families
• Teach effective coping strategies to recipients based upon personal experience
• Teach symptom management skills and assist in clarifying rehabilitation and recovery goals
• Assist families with developing community connections and natural supports
• Facilitate sharing of data with the individuals to whom it applies to facilitate partnered decision-making and to keep clients informed of progress
• Complete QI Training during onboarding and participate in QI refresher training as needed
• Cultivate a culture of inclusion for all employees that respects their individual strengths, views and experiences
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees
• Absorb and coordinate in planning for community integration trips with Youth ACT Recipients
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• A high school diploma preferred
• A provisional credential recognized by the Office of Mental Health and receive specialized training and supervision preferred, or required to be acquired within 6 months of employment
• Parent or Caregiver who has lived experience with the challenges of raising (or has raised) a child with serious mental health concerns and is personally familiar with the associated challenges and available community resources
