About the role

Transform Healthcare by diagnosing and treating human disease, illness and injuries while practicing evidence-based medicine. Prescribe medically necessary medications and treatments. Serve on various Carilion and/or hospital committees. Complete necessary documentation for patients' health information records. Deliver high-quality, compassionate medical care.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients using various medical equipment, instruments and tests.
  • Order or perform various tests, analyses and imaging to provide information on patients' conditions.
  • Diagnose patients' conditions based on examination, test and report results.
  • Prescribe and administer drugs, treatments and vaccinations.
  • May perform perinatal care, deliveries, surgeries and related invasive procedures.
  • Work closely with case management, nursing, and the medical staff to ensure appropriate patient plans and care coordination.
  • Support Joint Commission continuous readiness and compliance.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives with hospital management, the medical staff, and employees.
  • Complete required documentation timely and accurately.
  • Report births, deaths, and contagious diseases as required.
  • Conduct, cooperate, support, and collaborate on basic and clinical research.
  • Supervise medical treatment of patients.
  • Teach and mentor others.
  • Ensure the needs of patients come first.
  • Maintain and enhance professional competency and skills.

Requirements

  • A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current license to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Completion of an approved residency program in the relevant medical specialty.
  • Experience in evidence-based medicine and patient-centered care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
