Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Case Management: Assist attorneys in all stages of family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, and modifications; draft pleadings, motions, and discovery requests/responses.
- Document Management: Organize and maintain case files, including financial statements, parenting plans, and court filings, ensuring all documents are accurate and easily accessible.
- Trial and Hearing Preparation: Assist in preparation for hearings, mediations, and trials by compiling exhibits, preparing witness lists, and coordinating with court personnel.
- Client and Team Communication: Communicate with clients in a professional and empathetic manner; gather sensitive information and provide case status updates; act as a team-player assisting other paralegals and attorneys.
- Deadline Management: Track and manage deadlines for filings, responses, court appearances, and mediation requirements, ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Billing and Timekeeping: Record billable hours accurately and assist with preparing invoices for clients.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.
- One or more years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on family law or litigation preferred.
- Familiarity with family court procedures, filing requirements, and local rules.
- Experience preparing financial affidavits, statements of income and expenses, and asset/liability summaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with document management and e-filing systems.
- Prior courtroom, mediation, or hearing preparation experience preferred.
- Adaptability and willingness to take on new tasks as they arise.
- Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to structure complex projects efficiently and set/adjust priorities effectively; superior attention to detail; excellent judgment and use of discretion.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
