Family Educator - Head Start - Bilingual Required

About the role

Join our Head Start team as a Family Educator and work with families in a home-visit setting to provide resources and referrals, assist with family goal setting, and promote self-sufficiency. This position collaborates with team members to deliver services in education, health, nutrition, disabilities accommodation, family services, and parental involvement. You will support families in becoming advocates for their children’s education and active community members. This role offers growth opportunities and professional development through hands-on experience, with many employees advancing into management positions.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the Parent-Family Community Engagement (PFCE) framework to provide family services, including home visits, goal setting, assessments, resources, referrals, community engagement, parenting education, and follow-up support.
  • Conduct at least 2 family service home visits per year, totaling 3 contact hours.
  • Assist families in establishing and coordinating goals and action plans, collaborating with other agencies to support pre-existing plans.
  • Support families in obtaining children’s physical and mental examinations, health insurance, medical homes, and dental homes.
  • Encourage and facilitate parental involvement in children’s education and community engagement.
  • Perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by supervisors.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in social service delivery or case management.
  • Driver qualifications: valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a satisfactory driving record for the past 3 years.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Food Handlers Card or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Successful registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
  • Pass pre-employment physical examination (renewable every two years) and pre-employment/random drug/alcohol screenings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel) and videoconferencing platforms.
  • Effective communication skills with individuals and groups.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required; must pass a bilingual exam demonstrating fluent speaking, reading, and writing in both languages. Bilingual staff receive a pay differential based on test results.

Qualifications

  • Level 1: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Level 2: Associate’s degree in Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Social Work or Behavioral Health.
  • Level 3: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Behavioral Health, or a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Social Work or Behavioral Health.

Skills

  • Experience working with families and children (preferred).
  • Ability to remain calm during escalated situations involving staff or children.
  • Manual dexterity for handling office equipment.
  • Ability to evacuate children from the classroom in an emergency.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
