About the role
The Family Case Manager position within the Department of Child Services supports the mission of protecting children and strengthening families through compassionate and determined service. This role serves in Clinton, Indiana, focusing on Parke and Vermillion counties.
Responsibilities
- Investigate reported incidents of child abuse, neglect, or dependency, and develop recommendations for disposition.
- Assess the risk to children and, if necessary, remove them from unsafe environments.
- Conduct needs assessments and develop treatment options for families and children.
- Prepare and present reports for court hearings and agency reporting.
- Develop informal adjustment plans and case plans to support families and children.
- Coordinate with external providers and community resources to implement case plans.
- Maintain and update case files and documentation.
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of treatment programs and providers.
- Respond to on-call emergencies involving child abuse or neglect investigations.
- Conduct home studies and family histories to recommend placements for adoption.
- Visit children in out-of-home placements to facilitate family reunification, adoption, or independent living.
- Collect and analyze data to inform management decisions about family and child needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, or a related field, or Associate degree with at least two years of relevant human services experience.
- Completion of 30 college credit hours from an accredited institution with at least four years of relevant human services experience.
- A minimum of five years of human services experience.
- Advanced knowledge of social work principles, sociology, and group and individual counseling.
- Thorough understanding of child protection services, foster care, family preservation, and adoption-related laws and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, families, and children with special needs.
- Sound judgment and ability to manage crisis situations involving child abuse or neglect.
- Valid driver’s license.
Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of social work, casework, and group and individual counseling.
- Thorough understanding of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting child protection services, foster care, family preservation, and adoption.
- Specialized knowledge of the interrelationships between behavioral sciences and social work projects.
- Ability to investigate and interview alleged victims and perpetrators of child abuse or neglect.
- Ability to formulate and monitor project guidelines or treatment plans.
- Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports.
- Ability to work with families and children from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to handle crises involving confrontational or aggressive adults.

Pay
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
Schedule
This role is full-time and requires flexibility to respond to on-call emergencies and urgent cases.
