Fall Break Camp Counselor

Adventure Science Center’s mission is to open every mind to the wonders of science and technology, fostering a better understanding of ourselves and the world around us. Camp at Adventure Science Center (ASC) provides a wide range of science enrichment programs for youth ages 5-11. Programs combine science, technology, engineering, and math in ways that encourage kids to actively discover and examine concepts for themselves. We inspire a lifelong passion for learning and teach kids creative problem-solving skills, teamwork, persistence, and follow-through in a fun learning environment.

About the role

Consistent with the mission and vision of Adventure Science Center, and under the direction of the Programs Coordinator, the Camp Counselor is responsible for supervising an assigned group of up to 20 campers organized by rising grade levels 1st-5th (ages 5-11). Camp staff maintain the safety of the campers and ensure the camp’s daily program runs efficiently through detailed supervision and objective decision-making. Camp counselors utilize a set curriculum, organized supplies, and established programming to facilitate exciting, memorable camp experiences and activities.

Schedule

Paid training will take place on Sunday, October 4th. Fall Break Camp session will run: Monday, October 5th - Friday, October 9th and Monday, October 12th - Friday, October 16th. Camp staff can work one or both weeks. Shifts may vary; camp is open 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Responsibilities

• Provide every camper with a safe, fun, memorable, and educational experience.
• Encourage a positive and exciting learning environment, fostering passion for STEM and Adventure Science Center.
• Actively supervise and interact with campers, facilitating activities and experiments with a focus on STEM content.
• Utilize creativity, innovation, and inspiration while facilitating camp activities.
• Proactively engage campers in personal, inspiring interactions.
• Assist during emergency and evacuation situations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School graduate. Background in STEAM/STEM education a plus.
• Enthusiasm for working with kids and education.
• Willing to take initiative, be flexible, and possess a “can-do” attitude.
• Reliable, courteous, and collaborative team player.
• Capacity to manage time and multitask.
• Ability to think in the abstract, solve problems, make decisions, instruct, evaluate, and lead others.
• Ability to manage large groups in a fun, educational environment.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation/facilitation skills.
• Positive attitude required: strong desire to work with and inspire children from diverse backgrounds in a fun, learning atmosphere.
• First Aid/CPR/AED (Adult and/or Pediatric) certification preferred.

Special Conditions

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations. Typically, walking, standing, bending, and carrying light items (up to 20 pounds unassisted) and 50 pounds assisted are required. At times, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. Also, the employee must have manual dexterity, visual acuity, and auditory acuity. Some repetitive motion is involved.

$15.45/hour
