About the role
The Fair Housing Outreach Educator will, individually and as part of a larger team, educate the public on Fair Housing laws, the City of Reading’s Anti-Discrimination Ordinance, and raise the visibility of the Human Relations Commission. This position reports to the Human Relations Commission Executive Director.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community outreach strategies that inform consumers of their fair housing rights and the services the RHRC provides to individuals who have experienced housing discrimination.
- Enhance the RHRC’s social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter (X), and other platforms.
- Develop outreach tools such as pamphlets, brochures, and publications to inform consumers of their fair housing rights.
- Schedule and conduct outreach events and activities in the community to educate consumers and provide educational training in compliance with contracts and grant agreements.
- Attend community meetings to conduct outreach, advocate for clients and program needs, and network with housing professionals, community agencies, and government entities to further the RHRC’s mission.
- Enhance the RHRC’s internet and social media presence, as well as its website.
- Assist in organizing conferences and special events to further the RHRC’s mission.
- Provide technical assistance to consumers who want to file a housing discrimination complaint.
- Work successfully with a diverse population.
- Proactively conceptualize and suggest marketing initiatives or materials to support the growth and development of this position.
- Provide internal and external presentations on the program and its results.
- Support and implement events and specific educational outreach projects and initiatives as directed.
- Record and maintain complete and accurate records of all activities related to job duties; produce reports for funding agencies, the RHRC, and the City as required.
- Actively participate in staff meetings and training.
- Travel throughout the city and surrounding areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
- Associate’s degree or relevant professional experience preferred.
- Valid PA Driver’s License.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (required).
- Prior experience in community outreach, marketing, advocacy, or a related role.
