Responsibilities
- Demonstrated experience in educating students, with a prior faculty appointment or by way of clinical background as a Physician Assistant or other healthcare professional with expertise in an academic area of specialization.
- Serves as a primary faculty member responsible for and actively participating in the processes of developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals and competencies of the program.
- Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
- Presents ideas clearly and creates a climate conducive to learning.
- Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
- Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
- Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
- Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
- Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
- May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
- Carrries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
Requirements
- Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, usually a terminal degree (earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
- Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
- Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
- Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).
- Adaptability and willingness to teach courses and/or perform special duties as assigned.
- Participation in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.
- Mentor and/or orient new faculty as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a related area of specialization.
- Five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including clinical experience.
- Physician Assistant or related health professional.
- Doctoral degree in related area of specialization and five (5) years of experience in healthcare.
- Current NCCPA certification preferred.
- Eligible for licensure in the State of Florida, if applicable.
