Responsibilities

  • Teaches graduate Occupational Therapy course(s) as assigned.
  • Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
  • Presents ideas clearly.
  • Creates a climate that is conducive to learning.
  • Stimulates intellectual curiosity.
  • Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
  • Participates in department, college-wide, and university-wide committees and meetings.
  • Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
  • Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
  • Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
  • May manage subordinates in the classroom or laboratory.
  • Carrries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable laws.
  • Participates in state and/or local community service that is a recognized form of career development.
  • Mentors and/or orients new faculty as assigned.
  • Edicates Occupational Therapy graduate students in entry-level and post-professional programs, with a focus on occupation- and evidence-based practice.
  • Proficient with face to face, as well as online teaching formats.
  • Collaborates with fellow faculty members within the department, college, and division to develop and participate in courses, research projects, and community service.
  • Teaches courses in foundations as well as a specialty practice area.
  • Mentors graduate research at both entry- and doctoral level, serves on or chairs dissertation committees.
  • Serves on program, college, division, and university committees.
  • Advises students.
  • Engages in scholarly activities within and outside of the department.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Appointment to the rank of professor requires a record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
  • Appointment to the rank of associate professor normally requires a record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Appointment to the rank of assistant professor requires completion of professional training, which in most disciplines will be a terminal degree (usually the earned doctorate), and the clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations in the English language.
  • Ability to work with appropriate mathematical concepts specific to the particular discipline.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph. D., M.D., or D.O., or other related terminal degree) in appropriate area of specialization.
