About the Role

Teaches and supervises nursing students at clinical training facilities, imparting cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills appropriate for the practice of professional nursing. Potential for scholarly productivity including articles in refereed journals, invited presentations, paper and/or poster presentations at state and regional meetings; active participation in professional nursing organizations at local and state levels; and active nursing professional experience to practice in the State of Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches undergraduate or graduate course(s) in the classroom and online as assigned.
  • Selects teaching and evaluation strategies appropriate to the students and setting.
  • Presents ideas clearly, utilizing various teaching strategies to meet students' needs and provide support to guide students in learning style.
  • Creates a climate conducive to learning and stimulates intellectual curiosity and student engagement in course content.
  • Provides and maintains a reliable schedule of office hours for student advising, tutoring, remediation, and consultation.
  • Participates in department and college-wide committees and meetings.
  • Engages in curriculum development related to current and new courses.
  • Maintains a personal professional development plan, which may include research and/or other creative activities, to assure growth and currency within the academic field.
  • Displays behavior consistent with professional ethics.
  • Manages subordinates in the classroom or laboratory, carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Participates in state and/or local community service recognized for career development.
  • Collegially collaborates with faculty across the college on various campuses.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Appointment to academic ranks requires the following qualifications:

  • Professor: A record of distinguished scholarship and outstanding teaching ability, evidenced by recognized professional productivity in the field(s) of specialization.
  • Associate Professor: A record of substantial success in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Assistant Professor: Completion of professional training (typically a terminal degree, usually the earned doctorate) and clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.
  • Instructor: Completion of professional training (typically a master’s degree) and clear promise of a successful career in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or a closely related field (required).
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of teaching experience (required).
  • Active, unencumbered RN or ARNP license from any U.S. state; an active Florida RN or ARNP license (or eligibility for one) is required.
  • Ed.D., D.N.P., or Ph.D. in Nursing or a closely related field (preferred).
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience (preferred).

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication conforming to prescribed style and format.
  • Ability to effectively present information to students, public groups, or professional organizations.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts specific to the discipline and apply them to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.).
  • Ability to manage a variety of abstract and concrete variables simultaneously.

Physical Requirements
