About the role

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University invites applications for two full‑time, tenure‑track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. One position targets candidates working in regenerative engineering, including biomaterials, cell engineering, and tissue engineering. The second position targets candidates working in computational biomechanics, particularly at the interface of rehabilitation, neural engineering, and artificial intelligence, with applications to neural and musculoskeletal systems. The successful candidate for the computational biomechanics role may hold an approximately 20 % appointment in the Feinberg School of Medicine. Outstanding candidates across the broader field of biomedical engineering are also encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to develop a robust, independently‑funded research program and become a recognized leader in their field, while committing to excellent and innovative teaching and departmental service. Northwestern’s BME faculty are embedded across the University with strong ties to other engineering departments in the McCormick School of Engineering and to clinical research in the Feinberg School of Medicine, providing extensive opportunities for collaborative, interdisciplinary, and translational research through numerous centers and institutes (e.g., Querrey Simpson Institute for Regenerative Engineering, Center for Advanced Regenerative Engineering, Querrey Simpson Institute for Translational Engineering for Advanced Medical Systems, Center for Physical Genomics and Engineering, Center for Engineering in Vision and Ophthalmology, Querrey Simpson Institute for Bioelectronics, Center for Genome Intelligence Engineering, Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, Center for Synthetic Biology, Center for Innovation in Global Health Technologies). The anticipated start date is September 1, 2027, though other dates are possible; sponsorship for an H‑1B visa may be available for qualified candidates subject to institutional policies and immigration regulations.
