Faculty Position in Quantum Science
About the role
The Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut (Storrs Campus) invites applications for a tenure-track position in experimental or theoretical quantum science with an emphasis on ultracold atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics techniques. The position will begin in August 2023 and may be at the Assistant Professor level or, for a sufficiently qualified applicant, the Associate Professor level. Exceptional candidates from all areas of AMO physics are encouraged to apply, especially those using ultracold systems to advance quantum information science, precision measurements, controlled chemistry, and other areas complementary to current AMO physics research within our department. Priority will be given to experimental applicants that are able to integrate existing AMO physics infrastructure into their research program.
Responsibilities
- Conduct innovative research in experimental or theoretical quantum science, with a focus on ultracold atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics techniques.
- Collaborate with faculty and students in the Department of Physics and across campus to advance research in quantum information science, precision measurements, controlled chemistry, and related fields.
- Develop and maintain state-of-the-art ultracold AMO physics infrastructure as needed for research projects.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum physics and AMO physics.
- Participate in departmental and university-wide committees and initiatives.
Requirements
- A PhD in Physics or a closely related field by the start date of the position.
- Strong record of research accomplishments in ultracold AMO physics.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Qualifications
- Research experience in ultracold AMO physics.
- Experience integrating existing AMO physics infrastructure into research programs.
- Strong teaching record, including experience teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum physics and AMO physics.
Skills
