Faculty Position Assistant Professor in Large Animal Neurology

About the role

The Department of Clinical Studies - New Bolton Center at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) invites applications for a standing faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in Large Animal Neurology. Candidates with a strong interest in clinical neurology and in generating new knowledge in large animal neurology are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical service, including consultations and oversight of emergency cases, in collaboration with the Hospital's Sports Medicine, Surgery, Neonatal Intensive Care, and Emergency and Critical Care Services.
• Teach and mentor students enrolled at Penn Vet, contributing to high-quality clinical and didactic teaching.
• Contribute to the research mission of the Department of Clinical Studies, engaging in scholarly activities such as peer-reviewed publications.
• Collaborate with faculty in Neurology and Neurosurgery at Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital, and basic research faculty in the Departments of Pathobiology and Biomedical Science.

Requirements

• A DVM/VMD (or equivalent) degree and Diplomate status or eligibility for certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine or European College of Equine Internal Medicine.
• Dual board certification (or eligibility) in neurology, or substantial experience in equine veterinary neurology practice.
• Demonstrated skill in performing, teaching, and interpreting comprehensive neurodiagnostic testing.
• Familiarity with neurosurgical indications and techniques.
• Excellent communication skills.

Qualifications

• Evidence of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, is highly desirable.

Skills

• Experience with the most common neurologic problems affecting sport horses.

Schedule

A typical division of effort for faculty in the Clinician-Educator (CE) track at New Bolton Center is 70% time on clinics, including clinical service and clinical teaching, and 30% time off clinics for academic efforts, including collaborative or independent research that produces scholarly publications in their area of expertise.
