Faculty position supporting learning on campus and via distance learning. This position starts in either January or August 2027.

About the Role

The Accounting Department prepares students for careers in tax preparation, corporate management, audit, finance, bookkeeping, and payroll in both the public and private sectors. Courses are delivered in face-to-face, asynchronous, hybrid, and synchronous modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and teach Accounting courses to a multicultural student population using instructional strategies appropriate for community college students.
  • Participate in departmental governance, including curriculum review, program review, and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in the Accounting program.
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
  • Support division and department goals through active engagement in decision-making and planning.
  • Serve on collegewide and departmental committees, councils, work groups, and task forces.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard Ultra).
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
  • Attend and participate in collegewide, campus, departmental, or other official functions.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or
  • Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Accounting, or
  • Associate degree in Accounting and 3 years of non-teaching work experience.
  • Three years of non-teaching, industry-related work experience.
  • Commitment to student success and equitable access to educational opportunities.
  • Experience using technology as an instructional aide.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Understanding of teaching in a community college environment serving underprepared and underserved students.

  • Dynamic, non-traditional instructional methods to teach students of varying proficiency levels.

  • Strong commitment to teaching in a community college setting, including cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Commitment to a culture of care and the mission of Austin Community College.
  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain a schedule, including evenings, weekends, and possible multiple campus locations.

Pay

$70,870 - $96,197 (based on a 10.5-month contract).

Working Conditions

  • Work is routinely performed in a classroom or laboratory setting.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, and reaching for extended periods.
  • Follow safety rules and report unsafe working conditions.
