About the role

Under the supervision of the Director of Facility Services, coordinator and facility plumber senior, the Facility Plumber performs journey-level duties in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures of gas and water plumbing-related equipment, components, and systems (e.g., water and room heating, water delivery, fire suppression, irrigation, evaporative cooling, swimming pools, gas lines, and waste systems) according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily work assignments in the assembly, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of plumbing-related equipment, components, and systems.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sump pumps, water heaters, boilers, and storage tanks.
  • Services or replaces components including valves, switches, pumps, traps, drains, hose bibs, backflow devices, screens, and lines.
  • Tests backflow and fire suppression systems.
  • Locates and orders parts and materials used to complete work assignments.
  • Completes assignments in a cost-efficient and timely manner.
  • Provides support to other facility areas as needed.
  • Assesses equipment safety and makes repairs.
  • Follows proper operating procedures with all equipment to avoid injury.
  • May respond to facility emergencies.
  • Shift work or on-call duties may be required.
  • Drives a facility vehicle for transportation to work sites and inspects vehicles as required.
  • Requires punctual and regular daily attendance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent (verification may be required).
  • Minimum of four years of previous work experience with demonstrated competence as a plumber.
  • Completion of an approved formal trade-specific program is highly preferred.
  • Utah State Plumbing Licensure is highly preferred.
  • Trade-specific certifications (e.g., backflow, gas technician) are preferred.
  • Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
  • Basic knowledge of State and city codes.
  • Competence in reading, writing, and math.
  • Skills and working knowledge to work independently at the technician level with the ability to assess and resolve problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with extensive interaction with department administrators, contractors, vendors, school administrators, staff, custodians, and District administrators.
  • Competence in the use, care, and maintenance of needed tools and equipment.
  • Clear communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of SDS safety procedures.
  • Self-motivated and proactive in completing tasks with minimal direction.
  • Valid Utah Driver’s license.
