About the role

This position works out of the Ray Brook office for the Division of Operations and will serve as part of an interior operations crew responsible for trail maintenance, interior outpost support and boundary line maintenance often working in remote mountainous locations in adverse weather.

Responsibilities

  • Operate chainsaws, brush saws and most hand and power tools
  • Operate snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles as necessary
  • Perform overnight stays at one of the interior outposts as required
  • Apply basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and electrical
  • Adhere to all safety protocols
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Utilize snowshoes and skis for winter travel
  • Experience with map and compass, land navigation and wilderness travel is desirable

Requirements

  • One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR
  • Two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade
  • Valid New York State driver’s license
  • Ability to negotiate difficult terrain
  • Ability to work in remote areas
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 60 pounds

Additional Comments

This is an hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required.
