Position Summary

Responsible for the oversight, safety, and effective operation of athletic facilities, including active supervision of participants and stewardship of equipment. This role requires a confident and mature presence to ensure a structured, respectful, and inclusive environment. This individual provides clear direction, enforces facility policies, and proactively addresses conflicts or behavioral concerns with sound judgment and professionalism.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains a safe and controlled environment for all participants and spectators by proactively monitoring activity, identifying potential risks, and intervening appropriately when necessary.
  • Exercises sound judgment and authority in enforcing facility rules and policies, addressing behavioral concerns, and resolving conflicts in a calm, firm, and respectful manner.
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with our rental partners.
  • Knowing and adhering to the posted gymnasium schedule but providing flexibility when deemed appropriate.
  • Accurately completes and maintains required documentation, including attendance records, incident reports, and program-related tracking, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Actively supports the organization’s DEIB commitments by modeling equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in daily work.
  • Recommend and helps implement strategies and initiatives that advance the organization’s diversity goals.
  • Adheres to and enforces all organizational policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including emergency response procedures, ensuring compliance at all times.
  • Supports the successful delivery of programs by assisting with setup, breakdown, and coordination of equipment, and facilitating access for authorized staff and participants.
  • Provides active, consistent supervision of all assigned athletic spaces of the field house/4 courts and bathrooms, waiting area, ensuring appropriate use of equipment and adherence to established guidelines and rules.
  • Serves as a visible leader and role model within the facility, promoting a culture aligned with the organization’s mission, including respect, accountability, sportsmanship, and positive engagement.
  • Willingness to accept responsibilities and duties other than those assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 25 years of age; candidates with demonstrated maturity, leadership experience, and the ability to exercise independent judgment in dynamic environments are strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience in athletics, recreation, facility supervision, coaching, or a related field, including experience working with diverse age groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage groups, enforce rules, and effectively resolve conflicts in a calm, professional, and authoritative manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage participants, build rapport, and maintain a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Proven reliability, professionalism, and accountability in previous roles, including the ability to work independently with minimal to no supervision.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends, based on facility and program needs.
  • Committing to support and further our equity-centered work as an organization. Actively supports all DEIB efforts.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Requested certifications: CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.

Abuse Risk Management

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with youth.
  • Complete required abuse risk management training prior to starting role.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
  • Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Physical Demands

  • Sufficient strength, agility, mobility and endurance to run up and down a full sized basketball court.
  • Climbing, crouching, standing, sitting on floor, kneeling, carrying (50 lbs), pushing, lifting (50 lbs), running and walking.

Pay

Approximately $18-$22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Standard schedule may include weekday evenings from 6PM-10PM and weekends 7AM-7PM.
