Maximize availability of all plant and equipment to ensure security of production while aligning routine maintenance activities with company operating policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with safety, legislative, environmental, and certifying authority requirements. Exercise independent judgment and discretion in executing duties with a high degree of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Manage direct reports to develop, meet, and maintain high safety standards at the facilities.
- Arrange and coordinate annual fire safety inspections with local fire departments; follow up on deficiencies or recommendations.
- Coordinate internal safety inspections of facilities conducted by managers and certified safety professionals; follow up on deficiencies and recommendations.
- Participate in the company’s safety committee as the Maintenance representative.
- Ensure facilities and grounds are maintained in accordance with relevant regulations, agency standards, and fiscal considerations.
- Develop, implement, and review site-specific maintenance logs for each facility.
- Conduct quarterly maintenance inspections of each facility with the relevant Supervisor or Manager; provide a summary of maintenance recommendations.
- Evaluate long-term needs for major projects and property improvements.
- Coordinate, arrange, and supervise corrective and preventive maintenance in line with company operating procedures, practices, and financial considerations.
- Ensure major equipment and furnishings are maintained in safe, operable condition or arrange for replacement.
- Develop, implement, and review equipment records (included in Maintenance Logs).
- Establish procedures and contacts for timely repairs of equipment requiring minor, frequent repairs.
- Secure major equipment bids and make purchase recommendations for replacement or new equipment.
- Arrange or provide training for personnel on safety and maintenance needs of equipment.
- Provide staff training on safety and maintenance topics, including maintenance logs, routine maintenance, equipment operations, and fire safety training.
- Arrange and coordinate annual fire safety training with the Safety Director and other employees.
- Attend training opportunities and seminars relevant to the position.
- Participate in annual budget preparation related to safety and maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
- Regularly review and monitor compliance with safe work systems and maintenance procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred and/or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- At least 5 years of experience in facility maintenance.
- Experience in estimating maintenance and repair costs is a plus.
- Ability to lead a multi-task team as a supervisor and in a technical capacity.
- Good knowledge of maintenance methods and equipment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises employees in the Maintenance Department.
Work Environment
- Plant environment.
- May require heavy lifting up to 75 lbs. or more.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position.
