About the role
The Facility Dog Handler will utilize a facility dog to provide goal-oriented therapeutic interventions for patients at Dayton Children's.
Responsibilities
- Provide therapeutic interventions addressing emotional, behavioral, receptive/expressive, cognitive, and physical needs of patients.
- Provide daily care and control of the facility dog, including maintaining a safe/clean work/rest environment, feeding/weight management, veterinary care, grooming/cleanliness, and ongoing teaching/training.
- Collaborate with other members of the health care team to provide comprehensive care.
- Maintain appropriate records and keep professional knowledge current.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in child development or a related field.
- CCLS - Certified Child Life Specialist or Certified Recreation Therapists certification, or licensure with the Ohio Counselor, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy Board (including Licensed Professional Musical Therapist).
- 1-3 years of pediatric healthcare experience.
- Experience with animal-assisted therapy preferred.
