Facility Architect Assessor (ACP Sponsor Engagement)

Full-time position, 35 hours per week. Work location: 30-30 Thomson Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101. Only candidates who are permanent in the Administrative Architect title or those who are reachable on the DDC promotional list (exam #6501) or the open-competitive list (exam #6001) may apply. Please provide a copy of your Notice of Result card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title.

Responsibilities

• Conduct condition assessments in City-owned buildings.
• Assess the physical condition of exterior and interior building components, as well as overall code compliance, sustainability, and resiliency.
• Identify immediate and potential problem areas to inform decision-making and prioritize actions.
• Coordinate and advise on ADA surveys performed simultaneously to synthesize findings.
• Record existing conditions, provide code and local laws analysis, and prepare facility assessment reports for sponsor agency budget planning.

Requirements

• Valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
• Six years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, with at least two years as an administrative architect.
• Thorough understanding of building construction methods, materials, and assemblies, particularly for older 19th and 20th century buildings.
• Expertise in forensic diagnosis of deterioration, distress, and failure issues.
• Up-to-date understanding of construction and material costs.
• At least 3 years of prior relevant field inspection experience.
• Physical ability to conduct site visits, including accessing stairs, catwalks, ladders, rooftops, basements, and confined spaces in multi-level buildings.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid motor vehicle driver’s license.
• Must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. DDC cannot sponsor or support visa applications, including OPT/STEM, H-1B, F-1 practical training, or permanent residence sponsorship.
• Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Foreign credentials require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.

Pay

$62,407.00 – $104,267.00 per year.

New York City residency is not required for this position.
