Facilities Technician - Engineering Grounds

Location: 65 Retreat Ave, Hartford, CT – Hartford Hospital, a Level 1 Trauma Center and one of the largest and most respected teaching hospitals in New England. Home to the largest robotic surgery center in the Northeast and the Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESI), one of the most advanced medical simulation training centers in the world.

About the role

Performs general preventive maintenance and repair of various areas around the facility.

Responsibilities

• Completes work orders, documents appropriate information on completed work, and/or documents the status of equipment to maintain records for regulatory agencies.
• Utilizes materials (wood, metal, concrete, plastics, composites) to fit and install glass windows, pictures, ceiling tiles, perimeter rail systems, wood trim and moldings, medical hardware stations, fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and other projects.
• Performs general outside maintenance including mowing lawns, weeding, raking leaves, trimming bushes, snow removal, and ice control tasks (shoveling and salting).
• Performs minor plumbing repairs and replacements of faucets, toilets, and flush valves.
• Performs decorative application to walls, ceilings, and other structures, including scraping, sanding, filling holes and cracks, removing/replacing outlet and switch covers, masking, and applying paint or wall covering based on manufacturing specifications.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• 1 year of general building maintenance experience.
• At least two years of horticulture experience in a retail, wholesale, or grounds keeping environment.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Valid Connecticut driver’s license.
• Ability to operate standard landscaping power equipment and winter machinery such as a Bobcat; experience with winter plowing preferred.
• Ability to work as a team and independently.
